Pop star Selena Gomez took some time off in the last few months to go to rehab since September 2016. However, she has been easing herself back into the limelight after her 90 day stay there.
Her real reason for going has been covered in puzzle. But, it turns out many reasons led to her present condition. Here are some the reason that potentially left her in rehab.
She is Fighting Lupus
The singer/actress confirmed speculations that she was struggling with lupus during her career break in 2013, saying she has lupus in 2015.
In an interview with Billboard, the star said “I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. “That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a**holes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
Lupus is a chronic disease that fools the immune system into attacking healthy cells. It can ruin any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). However, no one is sure of the specific type of lupus the singer has since she finds it depressing to talk about.
Meanwhile with symptoms like muscle pain, fatigue, chest pain, rashes, headaches, memory loss, fever, and shortness of breath (to mention but a few), it’s clear why she need to go to rehab to help her deal with it. She told People that lupus is not only taking a toll on her body but also her mind.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” she said in a statement. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.” This, of course, affects mental well-being of an individual.
She’s Hasn’t Gotten Over Justin Bieber Entirely
Just before Gomez canceled the last days of her Revival tour in August 2016, the 24-year-old and her notorious ex, Justin Bieber engaged in a serious public Instagram feud. The fight began when he shared photos with his then-girlfriend, Sofia Richie. Gomez slammed Bieber for not being faithful during their relationship, which he dismissed accusing her of using him to be famous. later on, through a Snapchat (via Billboard) she apologised for her statement, writing, “What I said was selfish and pointless.”
A close source revealed that Gomez became emotionally down on realising that Bieber was happy with Richie. This is basically because Selena is fragile emotionally, and Justin is a major factor. She was also said to have to been heartbroken when Bieber didn’t call to check in on her after she canceled her tour dates. “He’s moved on, she needs to accept that”, the source said. With her emotions still focused on Justin, it’s not difficult to see why she needs to be in the rehab.
She May Have Unsettled Alleged Substance Abuse Issues
Some people in the inner cycle of the ex of Justin Bieber insist she went to the rehab due to her emotional problems, while others said she has suffered substance abuse before now. Gomez stayed out of the public eye early 2014 claiming she was receiving treatment for lupus, but a close said she had some issues as well.
There were reports that former Disney sweetheart smoked marijuana often with ex Bieber when they were still dating. Other reports say she was “partying very hard…experimenting with marijuana and prescription drugs, including Xanax and Ambien.” Insiders also said she is being treated for alcohol abuse.
The stunner stayed only just weeks out of the recommended 45-day program. However, this time she stayed for the full programme so as to recover completely.
She’s Not Sure Who Is Really With Her
Gomez has often been seen with Taylor Swift and her squad—a clique of gals who spend time in Hollywood bars like Nice Guy, places that may not help someone with addiction issues. Reports say Gomez’s one-time best friend, Demi Lovato, who has also openly battled with addiction, has tried to keep the notorious group at bay and Gomez and Lovato have also broken up their friendship.
Gomez once told Marie Claire that she doesn’t trust anybody. This heart-rending statement goes to show that she is possibly not surrounded by the best people.
She Doesn’t Like People Talking About Her
Hot on the media trail, Gomez seems to hate the idea of her personal life becoming a public gist. She does not like that everybody talked about her relationship and breakup with Justin. She wants some things about her to go unnoticed.
According to her, she treats everybody right but receives foul treatment from them. The Good For You singer is not happy with the fact that she began working since she was 7 and being a UNICEF ambassador since I was 1 only to become a tabloid story.
The hitmaker told Marie Claire in June 2016 interview, “I would try to promote something that I loved, and the entire interview would be about my personal life. I would leave a room feeling defeated, feeling embarrassed, but I would always make sure to put that smile on my face because I wasn’t going to let them get to me.”
Recall that the stunner was body-shamed in spring 2015 after being shot in a swimsuit. Though she allowed the comments to slide, she confessed that she “let the criticism get to [her] a little bit.”
Also, the brunette beauty also likes defending her friends. In July 2016, Kim Kardashian posted a video of Gomez’s BFF, Taylor Swift, permitting her husband Kanye West to go ahead with the “Famous” lyrics, then Gomez turned to Twitter, telling one fan, “There are more important things to talk about,” she wrote. “Why can’t people use their voice for something that f***ing matters?” When a follower replied with, “Good question! Why haven’t you or Taylor not [sic] said a thing about #BlackLivesMatter or police brutality?” Gomez responded, “Oh lol, so that means if I hashtag something I save lives? No—I could give two f***s about sides. You don’t know what I do.”
Close People Have Left Her So Soon
Gomez has had a fair share of the cruelty of life. She was a close friend of Christina Grimmie, the Voice contestant who was killed in the summer of 2016. Reports indicate she was shattered by the news that she broke down in tears onstage in June 2016. She dedicated a song to Grimmie, crying, “When she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her…I don’t really understand how this really happened.”
This wasn’t the only loss the pop-star has seen lately. In November 2015, Gomez’s makeup artist, Jake Bailey, killed himself. In December 2011, Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, suffered a late-term miscarriage, that rocked the family real hard. These, no doubt, are enough to burn out anybody who has got feelings.
Her Return
After her 90 days off, she left her cellphone and admitted she had a refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.’
She re-appeared in November for the American Music Awards, where she urged fans to be true to their inner feelings and said: “I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. Since after her re-emergence, she has been doing great!
