Who are the Shortest and the Tallest of Actors Who Played James Bond?

After having appeared in a television adaptation of novelist Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale novel in 1954, American actor Barry Nelson became the first person to portray the famous James Bond character on screen.

Since then, however, only the United Kingdom and Australia have produced the actors who played James Bond in films. Fleming, the creator of the fictional character, portrayed Bond in his books as a handsome, athletic, and tall secret agent in his thirties and forties. These traits were all said to have been put into consideration when producers of the film began casting for the perfect actor to play the role. As the story goes, refined English actors like Cary Grant and David Niven were first considered to play the role, however, a somewhat uncultured 31-year-old actor in the shape of former bodybuilder Sean Connery was selected to play Bond, a move that infuriated Fleming. The novelist was said to have been appalled by the decision as he considered the tall and very masculine Scotsman an antithesis of his character.

After taking on the role, Ian Fleming found himself becoming an admirer of Connery’s physicality and sexual appeal which closely identified with the character he created. He was then left with no choice but to change his view on Connery as he went further to incorporate aspects of the actor into the book. Read on to get a breakdown of Sean Connery’s height, as well as that of all the actors who played James Bond as we identify the shortest and tallest of them all.
