When Game of Thrones first began, it was assumed to be another niche HBO show that would only be followed by a few million people. However, with its great centrepieces and its array of fascinating characters, it quickly became the number one TV show in the world, with billions of followers and thus became a vehicle to launch the careers of a few actors and actresses in the mainstream. Gethin Anthony, who played Renly Baratheon on show, is one of the actors who achieved a boost in popularity thanks to his appearance on the show.
Before he was cast in Game of Thrones, Gethin Anthony had starred in only a few movies or TV shows, many of which were small projects in which he had an even smaller role in, but that has changed since he starred on Game of Thrones. He has gone on to appear in major productions like Aquarius, First Kill, The Magicians, and a few others.
Gethin Anthony’s Biography
The man who would one day play a contender for the Iron Throne in Westeros was born on the 9th of October, 1983 in Stratford-upon-Avon in England. Much of his personal background is unknown but his academic journey began at Aston Hayes Primary School and he attended a couple more primary schools before he moving to secondary school at Tiffin School.
After completing his basic education, he earned a scholarship at the British American Drama Academy and he spent his higher education at Oxford University, where he studied English Literature at Balliol College. During his time at Oxford University, Gethin Anthony was already exhibiting the brilliance that has characterized his career thus far, rising up to become the President of the prestigious school’s Dramatic Society.
After time at Oxford, he headed over to London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art where he completed his training as an actor. Armed with several years of training and his own inherent talent, Gethin Anthony began his career as an actor on stage, starring in plays like Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors, Europe and several others, plenty of which are William Shakespeare’s works.
He made his onscreen debut in Holby City, playing Drew Kramer in an episode of the show and in the same year, he starred in his first feature-length film, a TV movie titled Pinochet’s Last Stand as William Straw. The early days of Gethin Anthony’s career featured appearances in a range of shows and TV Movies, until 2011, when he was cast as Renly Baratheon on Game of Thrones.
He starred in eight episodes of the show between 2011 and 2012 but played a pivotal character that left a significant impact on the show. After his time on the show came to an end, Gethin moved on to star in films like Copenhagen, We are Monster, and shows like Aquarius: The Summer of Love and Aquarius, playing the character, Charles Manson, in both.

Is He Gay Or Dating Anyone?
In Game of Thrones, which is undoubtedly his biggest project yet, his character, Renly Baratheon was a gay character. The talent with which he played the character led to rumours that he was, in fact, gay.
Unfortunately, the brilliance of his work on the show might be nothing more than the evidence of the depth of his talents because Gethin Anthony hasn’t been known to be in any type of relationship since he stepped into the limelight as an actor.
He has managed to keep his private life away from the circling eyes of the media and curious fans and we cannot confirm if he is either gay or not. It is, however, expected that he will reveal his partner when he is ready.
In addition to the absence of information about his personal life, we also know very little about Gethin Anthony’s family. The actor has so far kept details about his parents away from the media with the only known fact being that he has supportive parents who supported his quest to become an actor all through his academic journey.
