Early Life

The former Chicago Bears player was born Nicholas Ryan Novak on August 21, 1981. He grew up in the place of his birth, San Diego, California, alongside his siblings: Andrew and Chris Novak. Nick and his brothers were raised by their parents, Julie and Bob Novak. For his early education, he attended Albemarle High School, where he earned letters in soccer and football before graduating in 2000. He received All-Daily Progress, All-Districts, and All-State honors. He was inducted into his high school’s hall of fame on May 4, 2018, in order to commemorate his exploits.

Nick Novak enrolled at the University of Maryland where he pursued his college football career. His tenacity and speed led to him being fondly called The Kick. Season after season, he exhibited extraordinary talent, athletic skills, and achievement, leading to him being named to several All teams and receiving an array of honors such as a LeFrak Scholarship, All-ACC Academic Football Team honor, and the Jim Tatum Award. At the same time, Nick served as a member of the Phi Delta Theta society.

In 2005, Nick joined the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent. He played several games for the team, displaying his trademark ability until his contract ran out after the player he was hired to replace fully recovered. He went on to the Arizona Cardinals where he stayed until 2006 before joining the Washington Redskins again to stand in for John Hall once more. At the end of that season, Nick moved to the Chicago Bears, which then allocated him to play in the NFL Europa for Cologne Centurions. Although he had a magnificent preseason with the Bears, he was let go. Nick was eventually selected by Kansas City Chiefs after he auditioned for them and some other teams. He spent the 2008 season there before they killed his contract.

Moving on, Nick Novak signed for the San Diego Chargers in 2010 but he didn’t make it past preseason cutoffs. Nick’s next stop was the Florida Tuskers where he spent the 2010 season with an excellent run. He joined the New York Jets in 2011 but was let go after the final preseason game in August. He then returned to the San Diego Chargers and played for them until 2015, when the traveling placekicker left to sign with the Houston Texans. In 2017, Nick rejoined the Los Angeles Chargers for the third time and remained with them until he left to play for his current club, Birmingham Iron in August 2018.

Despite the fact that Nick Novak has worked as a free agent his entire NFL career, he has still managed to reel in the heavy checks over the years. During his stint in the NFL, he took home over 8 million by way of salaries in that period. His current contract with Birmingham Iron has him earning over $250,000 a year.
