The Weeknd vs Bella Hadid: Who has a Higher Net Worth and Who is Older?

Hollywood celebrities are notorious for their on-and-off romances and another one that has got fans buzzing is the protracted romance between the Weeknd and Bella Hadid. The multiple award-winning singer and the superstar model first got together in 2015. They broke up the next year before reuniting at the 2018 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The second edition of their love story would last for several months before they would again break up in 2019. Fans are now waiting with bated breath to see if there will be another reunion but the two stars at the heart of the whole saga are moving on with their professional careers.

Hadid has consolidated her position as one of the most well-known models of the present generation and has worked with the likes of Chanel and Givenchy. She has also scored several magazine covers and endorsement deals on her way to the top. The Weeknd is also not performing badly. The Canadian singer is one of the best things to happen to contemporary music and has dropped several chart-topping hits. He has also scored numerous awards and has been hailed for ushering in a “new era of genre-less music”. High praise indeed but does this mean that he has more money than his famous ex? Well, let’s find out.

Who is Richer Between the Weeknd and Bella Hadid?

The Weeknd comes out on top in this round with a net worth of $100 million. This makes him three times richer than his ex-girlfriend, Bella Hadid, who has a net worth of $25 million. The model owes her fortune to a career that spans a decade. A 16-year-old Hadid made her debut in 2012 by featuring in a TV commercial. From there, she was able to sign a contract with the prestigious IMG models and the sky has since been her limit. In the course of her career, Hadid has walked the runway for top brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Chanel, Versace, Dior, Givenchy, Oscar De La Renta, and Ralph Lauren.

She has also been covered in prestigious magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, British GQ, Vogue, Elle, Allure, W Magazines and Glamour U.K. Hadid’s fame on social media also means that several brands are scrambling after her to represent their products. Thus far, she has featured in lucrative campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, Ralph Lauren, Samsung, Marc Jacobs, Topshop, and Calvin Kline. She has also served as a brand ambassador for Dior makeup, Bulgari’s accessory lines, and luxury watch brand TAG Heuer.

While Bella Hadid is busy conquering the runway, the Weeknd is doing something similar in the music industry. From his humble beginnings of posting his music on social media, the Canadian singer has grown into one of the most influential artists of his generation. He has dropped several hit singles such as “Heartless”, “Blinding Lights”, “The Hills”, “Can’t Feel My Face”, and “Star boy”. His albums have also been critically-acclaimed and he is one of the bestselling musicians in the world with about 75 million records sold.

The Weeknd now ranks amongst the highest-earning celebrities in the world (he came in at No. 6 on the 2017 Forbes list with $92 million) and a big reason behind this is streaming. Even though actual streams don’t generate much money, the viral fame from it means that the artist can command huge monies for other projects. In the case of The Weeknd, his billions of streams meant that he was able to earn $1.1 million for each stop on his Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour of 2017. This led to a total of $75 million in earnings and he then supplemented it with income from deals with the likes of Puma, Bacardi, A Bathing Ape, H & M, Apple Music, and Marvel Studios.

Who is Older: The Singer or the Model?

The Weeknd and Bella Hadid have some things in common but age is not one of them. The singer is six years older than his ex-girlfriend having been born on the 16th day of February 1990 in Toronto, Canada. Hadid, on her own part, was born on the 9th of October 1996 in Washington D.C., U.S.A.

One thing that the former lovers do have in common is that they both hail from immigrant backgrounds. Hadid’s father originally hails from Palestine but was able to make a good life for himself in America, eventually becoming a wealthy real estate developer. He was able to give his kids a good life and Bella and her siblings attended good schools. They also took various classes, such as horse riding, and the young girl later made it to the prestigious Parson’s School of Design in New York. She however dropped out after her modeling career took off in 2012.

The Weeknd also got his career start in the early 2010s. Born to two Ethiopian immigrants, the young boy grew up in a multicultural part of Toronto. He dabbled into drugs as a teen and used pills such as Xanax, cocaine, ecstasy, and oxycodone. Such an expensive habit inevitably led to The Weeknd shoplifting and by the age of 17, he dropped out of school. Luckily for the young man, he had his musical talent to hold on to and before long, started dropping songs on YouTube. These songs garnered some steam and he didn’t even have to go looking for a recording contract as the labels came chasing after him.

The Weeknd and Bella Hadid Have Been On and Off Since 2015

The ongoing love drama between The Weeknd and Bella Hadid dates back to 2015 when they were spotted together at the Coachella Music Festival. The singer would later reveal that he first got in contact with the model for purely professional reasons; so that she would feature in the artwork for his album, Beauty Behind the Madness. They then took a liking to each other and promptly commenced a relationship. Their romance lasted for a year and a half during which they were notoriously private. They however shared some sweet snaps on social media and attended some industry events together, including the 2016 Grammys.

Sadly, by November 2016, the couple broke up ostensibly as a result of their busy schedules. The breakup would last for a year and six months during which the Weeknd got involved with fellow musician, Selena Gomez. They however broke up in September 2017 and by May 2018, he and Hadid were an item once more. This second installment of their romance lasted for a year and three months before they broke up again in August 2019. The two are still broken up but they do maintain close relations with each other. The Weeknd wished Hadid a happy birthday in October 2019 and they are also said to have gotten in touch in 2020.

This has given fans hope of another reconciliation but insiders have played this down, maintaining that things are only platonic between the two.
