Michelle was born in Memphis Tennessee. In K Michelle’s college yearbook, her age was reported as 18 as at late 2000. This would put her birth year at 1982. However, in 2005, Source Magazine reported her age as 31, which puts 1984 as her birth year. Complicating the age thing a little even more, AllMusic’s biography of K Michelle gives her birth year as 1986.
This discrepancy of K Michelle’s birth year has been in debate for such a long time, and with her silence on the age issue, there seems not to be any clear and absolute year to point to as her year of birth.
While growing up, she learned to play the guitar and piano and also took voice lessons from Bob Westbrook who also worked with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. After winning a scholarship in high school for yodeling, she headed to the Florida A&M University to study music.

However, the father of her child went ahead to marry one of K Michelle’s sorority sisters in the Delta Sigma Theta sorority in the Florida A&M University. She pledged in the Beta Alpha chapter in the Fall of 2001.
K Michelle has successfully kept her personal life private, but for all we know, she is married. Her husband’s name is Dr. Kastan Sims, and they are going strong every day.
Dr. Kastan Sims is a dentist from K Michelle’s hometown of Memphis, and they reportedly started their relationships sometime in 2016. They got married in a private wedding, and even have a child together.
In 2012, after leaving Jive records Michelle appeared on VH1 reality show “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” which thrust her further into the limelight. She made $50, 000 in the show’s first season and $200,000 in the second. After the second season, she moved to New York to join “Love& Hip Hop New York” with the aim of improving its ratings. In 2014, she began starring in her own spin-off of “Love & Hip Hop” titled “K. Michelle: My Life”.
