From around the mid-2000s to the early 2010s, a time in which the Marc Cherry created mystery comedy-drama TV series Desperate Housewives was on air, very few other shows could hold water to it. It was well-received by both viewers and critics, ranking high on the most-watched series list of many countries and also garnering a host of awards from all the reputable award bodies. The series further featured an ensemble cast that included Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria, however, the most prominent of them was Teri Hatcher, who played the head role of Susan Mayer.
For her portrayal of the character, Hatcher received praise as she also won herself multiple awards for the role. Since the show ended, however, the actress who had starred in multiple other notable films and TV shows prior to this one has not been able to land another defining role. Read on to find out more about where Teri Hatcher has been ever since as well as a few possible reasons as to why she may have been unable to land another major role.
Film Acting Career
After studying acting at the American Conservatory Theater, Teri Hatcher took a job as a cheerleader with the San Francisco 49ers before she was able to get her acting break in 1985 when she joined the cast of The Love Boat. She played the role of one of the Mermaid showgirls named Amy until 1986 when she left and was then cast as Penny Parker in MacGyver (1986-1990). While playing that role, she further appeared in shows and films like Capitol (1986-1987), Karen’s Song (1987), Star Trek: The Next Generation (1988), The Big Picture (1989), and Tango & Cash (1989).
Hatcher’s next recurring role came in the short-lived sitcom Sunday Dinner (1991) where she played the role of a lawyer named TT Fagori opposite actor Robert Loggia. A headline-grabbing appearance in an episode of the very popular sitcom, Seinfeild (1993), followed for the actress before she was able to land her breakthrough role in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993-1997) where she played the titular role of Lois Lane.
In the following years, Teri Hatcher starred in films like The Cool Surface (1994), All Tied Up (1994), Heaven’s Prisoners (1996) with Alec Baldwin, and 2 Days in the Valley (1996). The most notable role she played in that time was that of Paris Carver in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), a role that coincided with her being voted the world’s sexiest woman by readers of popular men’s magazine FHM.
Following a few other minor roles in the early 2000s, Hatcher beat out a number of other big names to land the lead role of Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives (2004-2012). For her performance on it, she won a Golden Globe Award in 2005 for Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. She further received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 2005 for her work.
Where is Teri Hatcher Now?
While on Desperate Housewives, Teri Hatcher was one of the highest-paid actresses on television in the United States. It was reported that the actress took home around $285,000 per episode of the show. In late 2010, a report noted that Hatcher was going to quit the successful show, however, both the actress and the producers of the show denied the claim. In the following year, it was revealed that the show would be coming to an end in 2012, as several media sources noted that the cast of the show was involved in a rift. Reports in the past had pointed out that Hatcher did not get along with others, a fact that was proven to be true as thank you gifts that were handed out to the crew of the show did not bear Hatcher’s name but that of the other main cast members.
It is not exactly clear if this has anything to do with the fact that the actress has mainly taken up voice roles or appeared in shows that are not as big as her past efforts ever since Desperate Housewives ended. Some of these shows include The odd Couple (2016-2017) and Supergirl (2017).
Since 2018, Teri Hatcher has mainly appeared on her YouTube channel where she gives cooking and baking lessons among other things. The former student of Mathematics and Engineering at De Anza College further appears on Food Network’s Chopped where she was victorious in the Holiday Celebrity episode.
