A former NFL talent, Bill Cowher was born on May 8, 1957, in Pittsburgh. The North Carolina University graduate excelled in NFL both as a coach and player. He started his career in the league in 1979 as a linebacker with the Philadelphia Eagles, though he was signed with the Cleveland Browns.
In 1985, he began his coaching career and became the head coach of Pittsburgh Steelers in 1992 where he coached for 15 seasons. During his time with the team, he did many things right, making 10 playoff appearances, breaking NFL records as the second person to attain such playoffs in each of his first seasons as a head coach. Again, he led the team to eight division titles victories.
In 2006, he won Super Bowl XL after his team easily defeated Seattle Seahawks. Satisfied by his accomplishments, Bill thought it was about time he retired from the court. In 2007, he retired as a head coach but had plans in place for the future as he immediately became a studio analyst for NFL Today.
Bill has enjoyed a great career both as a player and coach.
