Tyler Gregory Okonma is an American rapper, record producer, and music video director, who goes by the stage name Tyler The Creator
Bio (Age and Ethnicity)
Tyler was born on 6 March 1991 in Los Angeles California to a Nigerian father and African-American and European-Canadian mother. His father abandoned his mother before he was born, thus, he has never seen his father. He grew up with his sister, Lynda and attended several schools in Los Angeles and in the Sacramento area.
His interest in music began since he was seven years old when he would take the covers out of old albums and draw imaginary titles and songs on them. At 14, he learned to play the piano by himself. Before he eventually decided to pursue a career in music, Tyler worked with FedEx and Starbucks.
Music Career and Albums
In December 2009, He released his first mix-tape, ‘Bastard’ which ranked 32nd on Pitchfork Media list. In February 2011, Tyler released his famous music video, ‘Yonkers’, which was the first song of his second album, ‘Goblin’. This video captured the attention of many media outlets and later, Tyler announced that he signed a one-album contract with XL Recordings.
In the same month, Tyler and Hodgy Beats appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and performed ‘Sandwitches’, which is a single from Tyler’s album, ‘Goblin’.
In 2010, Tyler hinted his fans about an album called ‘Wolf’, which would be released in 2012, but the album was later released in April 2013. ‘Wolf’ contained the music and instruments Tyler has been making since he was 15 years old. It was more of beats than rapping as Tyler himself had earlier hinted. While fans waited for the release of Wolf, Tyler performed several guest verses for other artists, notably “Trouble on My Mind” by GOOD Music artist Pusha T, “Martians vs. Goblins by Game (also featuring Lil Wayne), “I’ma Hata” by DJ Drama (also featuring Waka Flocka Flame and D-Bo), the title track from fellow Odd Future member Domo Genesis’ collaboration album with The Alchemist, No Idols, and “Blossom & Burn” by Trash Talk (also featuring Hodgy Beats).
Tyler The Creator also co-produced the song “666” from MellowHype’s third album Numbers, featuring Mike G. Tyler, and won the Best New Artist for “Yonkers” at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. In an interview with DJ Semtex, he confirmed that he will handle all the production on his upcoming album, except one song produced by Left Brain. This was how the production of Goblin was dealt with.
Being the leader of a hip-hop collective OFWGKTA, in February 2013, Tyler announced his album release through the OFWGKTA YouTube account. On the same day, he revealed three covers of the album and also the first single of the ‘Wolf’, namec’Domo23’ was released the same day. Tyler’s fourth album, ‘Cherry Bomb’ was released in April 2015 under his own music label, Odd Future Records. In August 2015, he revealed that he was banned from visiting the UK for 3 to 5 years. This ban forced him to cancel a lot of tours throughout the UK to promote the ‘Cherry Bomb’ album.
Early 2011, Odd Future announced that Tyler will get his own show named Loiter Squad. The show was later premiered in March 2012. He made tremendous contributions to the show. He directed many music videos for the show, acted in two roles and also worked as a graphic artist.

Is Tyler The Creator Gay?
There have been rumors and speculations surrounding his sexual orientation. But Tyler who has been accused of homophobia in the past due to his lyrics (though he has supported the LGBT community, previously releasing a Pride series of his GOLF clothing line), shocked the media and fans when the lyrics of two tracks; Foreword, I ain’t got time and Garden Shed from his album Flower Boy seemed to suggest that he was indirectly coming out as gay. Interestingly, this was the first time Tyler seemed to be making such suggestions.
Sometime in April 2015 to be precise, he tweeted; I TRIED TO COME OUT THE DAMN CLOSET LIKE FOUR DAYS AGO AND NO ONE CARED HAHAHHAHAHA.
In 2016, in response to Kendall Jenner’s tweet: Apparently, we’re dating, he replied, NOT POSSIBLE, WE’RE BOTH GAY.
In the summer of the same year while on a tour in Europe, he posted a drawing in which a rainbow-colored man peeps out of a closet with a speech bubble saying: IS IT SAFE?
The speculations were further fueled when he in an interview made mention of having a boyfriend when he was 15 years old. However, he later tweeted that it was a figure of speech.
Well, we are not sure if these are his ways of setting the stage to come out of the closet or just an avenue to sell his album and be in the news, whatever, it is, we just have to wait and see.
Tyler The Creator’s Quotes
Although Tyler claims he has lots of anti-religious lyrics in some of his songs, he has said he does not worship the devil but simply hates religion. Some of his quotes suggest he’s an agnostic. Here are some of his notable worlds:
“I’m going harder than coming out the closet to conservative Christian fathers.”
“The devil doesn’t wear Prada/I’m clearly in a white tee”
“Losers can never win me. You can never offend me. My goal in life is a Grammy; hopefully, momma will attend the ceremony with all my homies.”
“I was taught to act my shoe size, never my age. I always judge a book by the cover, never the page. I never judge a murder by weapons, only the rage.’
“You have highlights about your life; I have life about my highlights. Go to college, get a job, marry, have a kid, watch them grow and then you die? No, nigga, fuck the system!”
“I like my girls skinny with brains. I like my hoodies fucked with Lame. I like my friends imaginary with no names. And I make music for the fuck of it, no fame.”
