The actor was born to a father identified as Samuel Seagal and a mother called Patricia Seagal. His father worked as a high school mathematics teacher and his mother was a medical technician. He has a sister called Brenda Seagal.

Seagal developed an interest in martial arts from an early and started training at the age of 7 under the guidance of Fumio Demura, a well-known karate instructor.
