When Shaun White was only 9 years old, he met one of the greatest professional skateboarders of all time – Tony Hawk, who has come to make the sports popular. Somehow, the two became friends despite their massive age difference and with the help of the legendary skateboarder, Shaun has risen to become one of the best in the sports of skateboarding and snowboarding himself, with three Olympic gold medals to his name and a massive 10 ESPY Awards.

Shaun White’s Biography: How Old is He? 

Of Italian and Irish descent, the legendary skateboarder and snowboarder was born Shaun Roger White on September 3, 1986, San Diego, California. He did not have it very easy in his early years as he was born with a heart defect which required for him to have a couple of heart operations even before he was a year old.

He was raised alongside his siblings, Kari and Jesse White by their parents Cathy and Roger White. He got his education from Carlsbad High School in California.

By the age of 6, he began snowboarding, getting a knack for the sport from his older brother. Less than a year after he started, it was already obvious that he was cut out for the sport as with only a few falls, he had already almost mastered his way around the sport.

By the time Shaun White was 13, he had not only won every amateur event, but he was also signed to a major brand which helped him to become a professional in the sport. This marked his start for what would be a very successful career.

Nicknamed “The Flying Tomato”, White is also an actor and a singer. He has made cameo appearances playing himself in productions including Friends with Benefits (2011), the animation American Dad! In 2011, and also Cloud 9 in 2014. He has also had other film offers that he turned them down.

As regards his music, he is a member of the electric rock band, Bad Things which started in 2012. He is the guitarist of the band. In 2014, he released an album, Bad Things with the band.

Career Achievements

Having started out as a skateboarder and snowboarder since he was a little child, he turned pro when he was only 17. He first started skiing when he was a child but later turned to snowboard.

Only two years later, he participated in his first Olympics at the 2006 Winter Olympics, winning gold in the half-pipe. In his second Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver, White got his second Olympic gold medal but was not able to maintain the feat at the 2014 event where he ended in fourth place. However, at the 2018 Winter Olympics, he bounced back and won his third gold medal.

In 2002, he appeared in his first Winter X Games, ending with a silver medal. From 2003 to 2006, he won four gold medals at the event, followed by a silver in 2007, then gold medals from 2008 to 2013.

The three-time Olympic snowboarding champion who has recorded many other career achievements is preparing for the 2020 Summer Games while also hoping to defend his winter title in 2022 in Beijing. At the time, he will be 35, but the legend seems like he will be able to hold on.

When it comes to the relationship side of his life, Shaun White has managed to maintain a consistent relationship for a long time but is yet to get married. In 2013, he started dating his girlfriend, Sarah Barthel who is also a singer. She is a member of the American music duo, Phantogram which used to be known as Charlie.

Since they started dating, the two have stayed together, even though they are yet to tie the knot. Shaun was slapped with a lawsuit in 2016 by Lena Zawaideh, Bad Things Drummer, alleging that the skateboarder sexually harassed her. The case was finally settled out of court in 2017. The skateboarder and Barthel were able to get through this and so far, their relationship continues to grow.
