Sabrina Dhowre is an African-American model, actress, and social media celebrity, who is best known for being the woman who got the acclaimed English actor, Idris Elba, to the altar again after he had vowed that he was done with the marriage institution. Although Sabrina is accustomed to being in the spotlight, having begun her career in the world of pageantry, she didn’t become truly famous until her relationship with Idris happened.
Since then, the couple has gone on to tie the knot in an elaborate affair. They have also amassed millions of fans with their authenticity and undeniable chemistry. The gracious and lovely Dhowre has also completely immersed herself in her man’s world and is dedicated to using her newfound fame and considerable reach for the greater good.
Sabrina Dhowre Has Somalian Origins
Sabrina Dhowre was born in Montreal, Canada, on July 16, 1988. Her parents are originally from eastern Africa, and this makes her ethnically Somalian. The model-cum-style icon hails from a family of seven, comprising of her father, her mother, Maryam Egal, as well as four other siblings. Such a sizable number made for a hectic household, but it was one that was brimming with love and activity.
Sabrina spent the first 12 years of her life in Montreal. Her family subsequently relocated to the Canadian city of Vancouver, where she completed her secondary school education. Upon graduation, the young girl moved to the United States, where she enrolled at the reputable Howard University to study English Literature. She would eventually bag her degree after four years of study.
Fashioning out a Career as a Model and Actress
Whilst growing up, Sabrina Dhowre was interested in the world of fashion and entertainment as most young people are wont to do. She did not dream of making a career in it, and as such, she concentrated on her college studies. Fate, however, had other plans in stock for the young lady as, during her third year of college, she was approached by a woman while shopping at the mall. The lady informed her that she had the tall, leggy look to make it as a model and counseled her to participate in pageant competitions.
The reluctant Sabrina did not take the woman’s words to heart but capitulated as she thought that it was a good way to fill her required volunteer hours and do some philanthropic work. She, therefore, enrolled in the Mr and Miss Vancouver Competition in 2014, where she finally emerged as the champion. This victory greatly impacted Sabrina’s psyche and gave her the much-needed vigor with which to pursue a modeling career.
Since then, the Montreal native has scored more lucrative gigs and opportunities. She has featured in several magazines, including the likes of Harrods Magazine, Vogue, and DuJour. She has also served as a model for several known and emerging fashion lines, including Rolan Mouret, and now rubs shoulders with other fashion industry heavyweights such as Anna Wintour, as well as Bella and Gigi Hadid. The enterprising Sabrina is also nursing dreams of becoming an actress and is working on several projects, which will be hitting the cinemas soon.
How She Met And Married World’s Sexiest Man Idris Elba
Idris Elba is off the relationship market, and this is thanks to the stunning Sabrina Dhowre. Sabrina first crossed paths with Elba in Canada in early 2017 while he was shooting The Mountain Between Us, a romantic film featuring Kate Winslet. The meet-cute took place in a half-empty jazz bar, and it was love at first sight for the award-winning British actor. He immediately made his move and the equally-smitten Dhowre responded in kind. The couple subsequently commenced a relationship, and in September 2017, they made their official red carpet debut at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Following that outing, a whole lot of spotlight was beamed on the couple’s relationship. They, however, clung tight to each other, and by February 2018, they got engaged. The proposal took place in an East London theatre, where Elba was screening his directorial debut, Yardie, and the ecstatic Sabrina screamed yes. The couple thereafter got down to planning their nuptials, and they eventually tied the knot on the 26th of April 2019. The wedding ceremony was an extravagant three-day affair and was held at the Ksar Char-Bagh Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco.
It featured a souk-themed welcome celebration, complete with acrobatic belly dancers, and fire eaters, for the guests. There was also a wedding breakfast in a conservatory filled with pink and red roses, an altar made of flowers, an informal lunch by the mandarin Oriental’s pool, as well as concluding fireworks on the third night. The wedding also had performances by some African musicians, and Sabrina stunned in a custom-made Vera Wang A-line, off-shoulder dress, which she complemented with diamond earrings, bracelets, and Christian Louboutin shoes.
The Couple Has Been Enjoying a Blissful Union
Since their extravagant nuptials, Sabrina and her man have lived up to their vows and have established a union overflowing with love. The couple regularly posts heart-warming tributes to each other on social media. They have also made several red-carpet appearances, including at the 2020 edition of the Met Gala. The couple’s love for each other is such that they can’t be apart from the other. During the height of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Elba contracted it and shared the news with the world.
He also shared that his wife had chosen to stay by his side during his quarantine period. Many people criticized Dhowre as she was going against public health guidelines, but she stuck to her guns. The model later contracted the disease but remained unfazed as she and her husband now recovered together. Upon recovery, the couple revealed that they would be joining forces with the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development to set up a $40 million fund, which would be geared towards lessening the impact of the pandemic on farmers and food producers in rural areas.
This is not the first time that Sabrina and her man would be embarking on such an exemplary venture. The pair previously supported the Hands Off Our Girls campaign initiated by the first lady of Sierra Leone. The program was aimed at addressing the issues of child marriage and gender violence affecting young women and girls in the country, and Sabrina bravely revealed that her mother was a victim of domestic abuse. She, therefore, had no hesitations about joining any effort aimed at tackling the menace.

Are Kids on the Horizon for Sabrina Dhowre and Her Man?
Sabrina and her husband are yet to make any definite statements on whether they would be having kids in the future or not. It is, however, quite possible that they would want to do this given that Dhowre is quite young and would want some kids of her own. However, if the couple decides not to have any kids, they would still be in good company as Elba already has two from his previous relationships, namely a daughter, Isan, and a son, named Winston. Sabrina has built up a friendly rapport with both kids, and as such, all four now make up a happily blended family unit.
