Rila Fukushima is one interesting individual who has had an interesting career journey. A model and then an actress, she started out at first to become a modeling agent only to end up becoming a model herself. Next, she became an actress who has gained fame for her roles in films such as The Wolverine and the TV series Ghost in the Shell. Just as her career journey has been rather interesting, so also has been her personal life.

It was on January 16, 1989, that the model and actress was born in her home country of Japan. She was brought up in Tokyo where she was also educated. While she was growing up, Rila had always had her eyes set on becoming a model. This dream would later take her to New York with the hopes that she would soon find her way around as a professional model.

However, she soon moved back to Japan in 2010 because her mother was not in the best health and she wanted to take care of her. Rila Fukushima set out to get a job in a modeling agency. Although she got the job she was persuaded that she would make a good model and so she could give that a thought. She took the offer and that started her journey as a model.

The Tokyo-born multitalented woman has featured on the cover of a good number of magazines and has done campaigns for a good number of brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Kenzo, and The Gap.

In 2010, she appeared in the short movie Karma: A Very Twisted Love Story in which she portrayed Rei. This was followed by her famous role of Yukio in The Wolverine in 2013 and then Twilight: Saya in Sasara in 2014. In 2015, she was in Gonin Saga and Warrior. The next films she appeared in include Terra Formars (2016), Ghost in the Shell (2017), and then Honeybees and Distant Thunder (2019).

Apart from the films, she has also appeared in a number of TV series including Gunshi Kanbei and The Long Goodbye in 2014, Arrow which is one of her most popular series from 2014 to 2016. In 2015, she got the role of Red Priestess in the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. In 2017 and 2018, she was in Million Yen Women and Blindspot respectively.

A highly creative individual, when Rila Fukushima was through with her high school education, before modeling and acting, she went to music school where she spent two years. Interesting enough, though she has been into many things, music in the professional sense is not one.

With all her achievements, she was named by Vogue Japan in 2013 as its Woman of the Year.
