His parents are named Janis and Jerry Davis and he was raised in Alabama, in a town known as Muscle Shoals. Rece attended the University of Alabama, where he bagged a degree in Public Affairs and Broadcast News in 1988.
His foray into sports journalism began while he was still in school. He started working as a freelance journalist, studio host, and play-by-play announcer for any media organization that would hire him. Upon graduating from college, Rece Davis went on to work at WRBL based in Columbus, Georgia, where he worked in several capacities including sports director, reporter, and news anchor on the weekends until he left in 1993.
Rece next job was at WJRT-TV in Flint, Michigan, where he served as one of their sports reporter as well as an anchor.
