Randi Zuckerberg Biography

She was born and named Randi Jayne Zuckerberg on the 28th of February 1982. She grew up in Westchester County, New York alongside her three siblings (Mark, Arielle, Donna). Their parents Edward Zuckerberg (a dentist) and Karen Kempner (a psychiatrist) raised them in a close-knit family and encouraged them to develop their individual talents.
While not much is available about her high school education, Randi grew up to be influenced by her parents’ career choices. She followed their footsteps by enrolling in the sciences to study Psychology at ‘Harvard University’ in 1999 graduating in 2003.

Upon graduation, she got her ‘dream job’ with Ogilvy & Mather (an advertising firm). She had a lot to learn and looked forward to career advancement. She left this position to work as an Account Executive, Corporate Development with Forbes in 2004.

Randi Zuckerberg’s brother (Mark) invited her to join him around late 2004 when he was starting up Facebook. Although the position offered her a cut in salary, relocation, and stock options, she took up the position majorly because it felt like her brother really needed her. Randi accepted the offer but thought it would be temporary lasting about 6 months. On getting into Silicon Valley, she became intrigued by the innovation, drive, and possibilities in the community and remained there for six years.

During her time with Facebook, she was involved in different important events. In 2008, she organized the Facebook Democratic Party/ ABC News and Republican Party U.S Presidential debates. She was also a correspondent at the CNN/Facebook Inauguration Day Partnership, the Comcast Facebook Diaries event and at the ‘town hall’ event put together by ABC News television coverage for the National midterm elections of the U.S to mention a few.

Having grown in business, she realized that Facebook will always be Mark’s Business and decided to pursue her own dreams which have been on hold for a long time. Randi resigned from her position at Facebook in August 2011. She launched her media firm (Zuckerberg Media) in the same year and there has been no looking back since then. Randi Zuckerberg has produced different shows and worked on digital content for the United Nations, Bravo, Clinton Global initiative, Conde Nast and Cirque de Soleil.

Randi also began her writing in earnest and has written 3 adult and 2 children’s books till date. Among them are Dot Complicated, Pick Three: You Can Have It All (Just Not Every Day), and Missy President.

Randi’s main motivation for starting her media company is her belief that there aren’t enough women in technology. She revealed that as much as she loved working at Facebook, she hated being the only woman in the room (especially at tech programs). Her aim is to introduce children especially girls and supposedly underserved communities to science and technology in a fun way to create more diversity in the tech world. Randi founded Sue’s Tech kitchen and also hosts a weekly radio show on SiriusXM.
