As Bo Brady, the star of the acclaimed TV show Days of our Lives, Peter Reckell was propelled into the limelight in 1983. His casting in other notable TV shows also made him look poised to win over a lot more fans. However, after three decades of being on the show, he suddenly disappeared from the spotlight after his character in the iconic NBC daytime soap opera died. Here’s a highlight of what Peter Reckell is doing these days.
Who Exactly Is Peter Reckell?
Peter Reckell was born on May 7, 1955, in Elkhart but he spent his early days in Okemos, Michigan. His childhood was certainly a fun one with many playmates as he grew up with five siblings including three sisters and two brothers. Reckell didn’t take it easy as a child after he found out he had a passion for acting, starting out quite early to hone his skills. By the time he became a junior high student, he had already recorded several acting stints in school plays and even became a theatre technical director around that time.
He continued acting throughout his high school education and even when he left the school to join Boston Conservatory, he majored in theatre. The purpose was to perfect all that he had learned over the years of his early education. He went on to obtain a bachelor of fine arts degree in theater with a minor in music and dance. Without further ado, Reckell began acting with his debut noted as Eric Hollister on the TV show As the World Turns.
His Acting Career and Rise to Prominence
Although he was virtually unknown at the beginning of his career, he eventually became one of the most recognized in 1983 when he landed his breakout role as Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives. From that year to 1987, he won over a huge number of fans but he took a break in 1987 and returned on the show in 1990. Reckell left again the following year, during which he divorced his first wife Dale Kristen whom he married in 1987.
In 1995, when the emotional tides which resulted from his divorce were over, he returned to the show for the third time and continued delivering quite an impressive performance. After spending 26 years on Days of Our lives, Peter Reckell’s character was widely acclaimed in 2009 when he was nominated for his first Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series.
In 2010, Reckell demonstrated his diversity when he appeared as Richard McAndrews in the Emmy-award winning web soap opera series Venice: The Series. Two years later, in 2012, after wowing the fans of Days of Our Lives for years, Reckell departed the role again. The actor, however, took up other roles including a recurring role on the primetime series Knots Landing.
He also got several stage projects, performing in such plays as Moonchildren, Guys and Dolls, Deathtrap, Love Letters, The Pirates of Penzance, among others. With much attention on him, Reckell went on to prove his power in the Rustam Ibraguimbekov’s Broken Bridges which was taped in Russia. In 2015, the Elkhart-born actor joined the cast of Days of our Lives once again but left the show in 2016 when his character died.

It was really an emotional moment for the fans of Days of Our Lives in 2015 when Peter Reckell left the cast of the soap opera. Devoted fans even had to send in their farewell gifts to mark his departure from the show including cakes, wines, pictures of Bo Brady and lots more.
For Reckell, who had to deal with separation anxiety, it was a feeling of pleasure tinged with sadness. It wasn’t so easy for him to say goodbye but on the other hand, leaving meant an inspiring chance to move on, try new waters and see the different challenges that are out there.
During the bittersweet moment, Reckell promised his loyal fans that they were going to see more of him soon and indeed tried to stick around with a brief involvement in The Fantasticks, a year after he left Days Of Our Lives. However, he hasn’t been seen often since then. Perhaps, he decided to focus fully on spending time with his family. We said this because shortly after saying his final goodbyes to the show, he made it known that his imminent plan was to spend time with his family.
Around that time, he and his family traveled to Alaska to visit parents of his second wife Kelly Moneymaker whom he married in 1998. The family which includes Reckell, Kelly and their daughter Loden who was born in 2007 also went on vacation in Costa Rica. This was the last time anybody got updates about the actor.
