Omari Hardwick has earned an admirable spot in Hollywood, not just as one of the famous black actors, but also one of the most handsome. Popularly known as Ghost from Starz Network’s Power, or Andre from BET Network’s Being Mary Jane, the actor first caught the world off guard when he performed in the 2004 TV movie Sucker Free City. He further sealed his position in the circle for his role as Troy in the indie hit, I Will Follow. The multiple BET Award-nominated actor continues to excel. Let’s explore his journey in the film industry.
Bio, Age – Who Is Omari Hardwick?
Omari Hardwick is the son of Joyce and attorney Clifford Hardwick III. He was born on January 9, 1974. The actor is a Georgian to the core as he was born in Savannah and brought up in Decatur, both in Georgia. He has three siblings; two brothers – Jamil Hardwick, Malik Hardwick and a sister named Shani Hardwick.
As a young boy in Decatur, Georgia, the interest of Hardwick was to become an athlete or poet and he pursued this dream by participating in sports activities and poetry consistently while in Marist School in Atlanta, Georgia.
His excellence at the games (baseball, football, and basketball) eventually won him a football scholarship to the University of Georgia where he continued pursuing his dream career.
As if he didn’t have enough already on his plate, the actor added acting to his already busy school activities and soon made Theatre his subsidiary subject in the school.
Unfortunately for his sports aspirations, he suffered a career-ending knee injury when he was to be selected during NFL draft, leading to the end of his young sports career. In 2001, Hardwick turned his attention to acting but didn’t get much attention as a budding actor. Things got so bad he had to live in his car while doing odd jobs to pay for his acting classes. He got his first acting gig in the 2002 music video Floetry’s Say Yes.
The short scene didn’t change much for Hardwick but he remained optimistic. Between 2003 and 2004, he took part in the National Poetry Slam where he was bestowed with awards. Finally, in 2004, luck found him when he got his star-making role in the 2004 TV movie Sucker Free City.
After a successful performance in the TV film, Hardwick booked roles in the feature film The Guardian and also a regular role in Saved – which needed him to train as a fireman and a paramedic for 24 months.
In 2011, his fame accelerated rapidly when he starred as Troy in the indie hit, I Will Follow. The film in which he played his most praised role yet was critically acclaimed and won audience honors. After the role, the Georgian actor appeared on the TV show Being Mary Jane which was also memorable. Another remarkable performance by the Hollywood star which gathered rave reviews is as James Ghost St. Patrick in the drama thriller TV show Power.
In his nearly two-decade career, Omari has scored huge success and has recorded some awards in his name, including the Black Reel Award. He has also snagged several award nominations for his standout performances, including BET Award, Image Award, among others.
Outside acting, Hardwick has shown an admirable business acumen. He co-founded “Plan B Inc. Theatre Group” and is also a co-founder of Actor’s Lounge at the Los Angeles Greenway Theatre. Hardwick has equally earned kudos for co-founding Bravelife Films, a production company.
Omari Hardwick’s Net Worth
Omari has enjoyed a successful acting career over the years, so it is likely that he earns big from his acting stints and endorsements. His net worth is approximated at $1.5 million. As the actor continues to put in more hard work, his net worth is expected to grow in the future.
In the past, many film lovers have argued that Hardwick was gay. It seemed easy to believe as most of the gossips concerning his sexuality came from his seeming apathy towards women, even though he had everything going for him such as looks, success, physique and more. This rumor followed him for years until the actor put an end to it with his marriage to his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Pfautch in 2012. The two have stayed strong over the years and have been blessed with two children whose names are not made public.
Obviously, Omari Hardwick is an attractive actor and he pays attention to his physique. He is well-chiseled, toned and has well-defined six-packs – this explains why he is always serving us shirtless photos. But he isn’t the tallest handsome dude around, standing at the height of 5ft 10in. Moreso, his other body measurements are not known, even though he is regarded as a Hollywood mainstay.
