Born to New Yorker parents, Gibson and his parents moved to Sydney, Australia when he was 12 years old, majorly for economic reasons. In Australia, Gibson enrolled at St. Leo’s Catholic College where he was taught by Congregation of Christian Brothers.
He later studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Sydney. Mel Gibson began his acting career with stage performances and later expanded into cinematic works.
His debut film role came in 1977 with the movie “Summer City”. It was the same year he graduated from NDIA. For his role, Gibson received a $400 paycheck.
