She was a child when the Thriller craze was at its height but since she grew up into an adult, Lia Kim has recorded some achievements of her own in the dance department, such as training some of today’s K-Pop music stars in various dance choreography, an important aspect of the recent K-Pop dominance. Lia Kim Was Born As Kim Hye Rang
She was born on the 10th of July, 1987 in Seoul, South Korea to parents who raised her in the famous Asian city. A few years into her life on earth, Lia Kim, whose South Korean name is Kim Hye Rang, developed a passion for dance that has remained a part of her ever since.
For her education, she attended Dong-Seoul University after completing her basic education and she also earned a degree from You-Sei University in hip-hop dance.
Her career as a professional dancer began much like a story out of a Hollywood dance movie, as a street dancer where she competed in various competitions among fellow street dancers. As Lia Kim’s profile and reputation rose, she began to get noticed by industry insiders who recognized and appreciated her talent.
Soon, she quit street dance and became a professional choreographer, with an opportunity to show her talents to the world on a bigger stage and she began by competing in various national and international competitions, including a Euro Battle, which was held in Portugal, where she came second. Lia Kim also competed at the World Dance Competition and at the Dosi Hip-Hop Festival.
Soon, she began to work with entertainment companies like JYP Entertainment and SM Entertainment and she was able to found her own dance studio, 1Million Dance Studio. Through the studio, which also has its own YouTube channel with over 11 million subscribers to its name, Lia Kim has continued to grow in height and has expanded her resume to work as a dance choreographer for a variety of South Korean artists.
Her resume includes Miss A, Wonder Girls, Got7, Melody Day and many others. As a dancer, her dance company has also performed at a number of events like the New York Fashion Week, and at a number of Lee Hyo Lee’s concerts.
Aside from the work with her studio, she also teaches at Bran Dance Studio and has her own brand, G∆CHI. The brand has collaborated with fashion companies like KORELIMITED to produce dance and streetwear line, KORE X G∆CHI. The line includes joggers, shirts, and jackets.
Other than her collaboration, in fashion, Lia Kim also has an online fashion store named Shop Lia. And as far as personal recognition goes, Lia has gotten a few of it, including an award as the Choreographer of The Year in 2018 at the Gaon Chart Music Awards.
Family of the South Korean Choreographer
For many people, their family plays a very important role in determining their success and in that regard, Lia Kim has had a good one. With the exception of her father, not much is known about the individual lives of members of her family, only that they have been a rock for her to lean on whenever she needs it.
Her mother’s name is Kim Geuk-sook while her father is named Kim Jong-hwan. Her father is also active in the entertainment scene, a singer whose talents has earned him the name ‘Emperor of the Adult Ballard’.
Lia Kim’s father has published works of his own which include Reason for Existence and For Love, both of which has received significant attention, not only in airplay but in awards like the Golden Disc Awards.
