The former Colorado State graduate assistant became the University of Southern California (USC) tight ends coach before moving up to be the wide receivers coach and then offensive coordinator. His achievements with the college outfit prompted the NFL’s Oakland Raiders to make him their youngest ever head coach, and the youngest head coach in the NFL’s modern era.
However, Layla Kiffin’s husband’s tenure in the NFL proved to be brief as he was soon fired from his job. He moved back to coaching at the college level, first with the University of Tennessee and then with USC before joining the ranks at Alabama as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2016. Things had seemed perfect between the couple from afar as they raised their beautiful family and occasionally appeared side by side each other at public events. This was why it came as a huge surprise in 2015 when it came to light that the couple was going through some problems and were going to part ways. It was reported that the issue was as a result of Lane’s alleged affair.
While it was not clear who he had the affair with, reports mentioned two people; coach Nick Saban’s daughter, Kristin, and an unnamed wife of one of his team’s boosters. Further details about the issue were not provided to the public as the pair went on to finalize divorce proceedings in February 2016.
The divorce settlement indeed had an impact on Lane’s earnings as he was required to cough out a huge sum in alimony. Reports had it that Layla got 34.5% of her ex-husband’s salary as settlement for her and their kids. This reportedly took a toll on Lane’s entitlements as he was said to have spent up to 52% of his earnings on taxes.
