About three decades ago, there was a tiny number of Canadian entertainers who were internationally famous for their art. But over the last few years, this has changed greatly as Canadians like Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, Seth Rogen, and Ellen Page have changed the norm of things. Another Canadian trying to break such boundary and carve a name for himself in Hollywood is Kevin McGarry. Having kicked off his career in 2006, he has been on the rise ever since, with him starring in several hit movies and TV shows. He is mostly revered for his role as Dr. Timothy Hud, in the 2015 American-Canadian mystery drama, Open Heart.

Kevin McGarry: Biography

Kevin McGarry was born on March 19, 1985, in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada. His love for acting can be traced to the 9th grade when he took a much-needed break from his math class in order to cool off but accidentally wandered into a 12th-grade theatre class. According to the actor, watching the students dramatize, trying their best to play a certain role much different from how they appeared was enough conviction for him to decide to delve into acting.

As the years went by, his love for acting kept growing even stronger to the point he opted to study Creative Writing at George Brown College. Upon securing his College degree in creative writing, he attended Fanshawe College in London, where he learned more on the intricacies of Theatre Arts. In a bid to further increase his knowledge in theatre arts, he attended the Pro Actors Lab, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada before moving to Vancouver where he finalized his studies at Lyric.

In 2006 McGarry made his acting debut on the TBS series Love Bites but his role was quite minimal to make any serious impact in his career or in the minds of fans. Determined to make it as an actor he decided to try making a name for himself in the theatres before venturing to the big screen. As a result of this singular decision, he spent several years performing in various theatres across Canada. After four years of absence from the big screens, Kevin McGarry made his return by starring in a horror movie titled Saw 3D: The Final Chapter in which he played the character of Charlie.

The movie which became an instant hit, grossing approximately $136 million in the box office, was all McGarry needed to make his long-sought flight to stardom. Later that year he starred as Jonah on the comedy-drama Turn the Beat Around. Ever since then he has starred in several movies and TV series such as A Song For Christmas, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From Paris with Love, Being Erica, Murdoch Mysteries and most notably Open Heart where he played the character of Dr. Timothy Hud.

Truth be told, he can’t be categorized as an ‘A’ list actor yet, but considering his age, he has a lot of time to earn that title.

Being the private person that Kevin McGarry is, there is a lot of questions that have been left without answers about his personal life, the biggest being his family and his marital status. For a long time, lots of speculations have been made by bloggers, fans, and onlookers about his family. The reason for this is not far-fetched, the actor hardly talks about his family or share any post that concerns them online.

But all this became a thing of the past when he posted a picture of himself standing alongside several others with a caption that simply said “family” on his Instagram page. However, in classic McGarry style, he didn’t reveal the individual names of anyone in that picture.

Moving on to his marital status, let’s start by stating that Kevin McGarry hasn’t been married before. Nevertheless, in 2016, he revealed he was in a romantic relationship with Canadian triple-threat performer and actress Alex Herzog. There is no information as to how they met or when they started dating officially, but if the amount of time they spend together is anything to go by it won’t be long before wedding bells start ringing.
