The Canadian journalist Julie Stewart Binks is a Queen’s University graduate where she earned two bachelors degrees viz Bachelor of Physical and Health Education and Bachelor of Arts (Drama). She was born in Toronto, Ontario, on April 30, 1987. Her mother Georgie Binks was a journalist who worked as a news reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation while her father is known as Canada’s former Olympic rower. Although not much is known about her early years, she appears to be a well informed young woman. She also revealed that she was a competitive figure skater from the young age of four.
Prior to Julie’s years at the Queen’s University, she was a student at Havergal College also in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where she was an active track and field runner as well as a hockey player. After obtaining her degrees in 2009, she enrolled at Postgraduate School of Journalism, City University London where she graduated with master’s degree in International Broadcast Journalism in 2010. As an undergraduate, she wrote a thesis on the experiences of female sports reporters.
Careerwise, Julie Stewart Binks started off as a program assistant for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. While at CBC, she served as a reporter for the Toronto Maple Leafs, a National Hockey League team. In 2011, she was hired as an anchor by Fox Soccer Channel’s flagship program located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. For three months, (July to October 2011) Julie was committed to editing from soccer leagues highlight packs including Premier League, La Liga, MLS, and Serie A. At the same time, she reported for CTV Television Network in Regina and was known for anchoring weekend and late night sportscast on professional and local sports. Within her year of working with Fox Sports, she was able to cover the MLS game between FC Dallas and the Chicago Fire as well as the MLS ALL-star game held in Denver.
