Julie Banderas was born Julie E. Bidwell in Hartford, Connecticut in the United States on September 25, 1973. She was born to a Colombian mother named Fabiola R. and Howard D. Bidwell. She was raised in Connecticut along with her sister named Melissa; she has an American nationality and belongs to Colombian ethnicity.
While growing up, Julie developed a keen interest in becoming a reporter and during her college days, she was reporting on her school’s website. She attended Emerson in Boston, Massachusetts where she got a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. She started her journalism career at WLVI-TV, Cambridge owned television station serving in Boston, Massachusetts. Upon graduation, she was hired as a local news anchor at WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg, Virginia and later on, she moved to WBRE-TV located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Julie also worked for a while at WNYW in New York City. While at WNYW, she covered live, the Republican National Convention for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Single Newscast in 2004.
She was first a general assignment reporter for Fox News
After winning the award, Julie Banderas was sought after by so many popular networks but she opted for Fox News Channel in 2005. She started working as a general assignment reporter, covering top stories including the disappearance of the US student in Aruba in 2005, Hurricane Dennis, the legal case of Terri Schiavo from Florida, and the murder of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford by a notable sex offender among others.
Furthermore, Julie came into the limelight following her clash with Shirley Phelps-Roper who is the former spokesperson for Westboro Baptist Church in 2006. The Hartford native was promoted to an anchor in 2008 when she replaced Laurie Dhue on the program titled the Fox Report Weekend. She was replaced by Harris Faulkner during her maternity leave in 2010. When she returned towards the end of the year, she continued as a general news correspondent.
Banderas covered the New York City mayoral race in 2013 as well as the crash landing Southwest Flight 345 at the LaGuardia Airport. She also brought a live coverage of Pope Francis inauguration, Hurricane Sandy, and also contributed to health and wellness stories for Fox News.
