Jenna Coleman was born Jenna-Louise Coleman on the 27th of April 1986 in the northwest English Coastal town of Blackpool, Lancashire. She is the second of two children born to her parents – Karen and Keith Coleman. Her older sibling is a brother named Ben. According to the actress, her grandmother named her Jenna, after actress Priscilla Beaulieu Presley’s character of Jenna Wade in the 80s TV drama series, Dallas.

Coleman received her early education at Arnold School in Blackpool where she served as a head girl. While in school, she was able to balance the requirements of her education and her aspirations to become an actress as she was a member of the theatre company, In Yer Space. With them, she was able to perform at the Edinburgh Festival in the play Crystal Clear, which was received favorably as she also won an award for her performance.

After graduating from Arnold School, Jenna Coleman applied to various drama schools as she auditioned for roles in various shows.
