From college legend to NFL draft star with multiple endorsements deals and living a luxury lifestyle, Jason Elam’s over 17-years NFL career was clearly successful and worth it. Just like Nick Folk, the retired football placekicker had a long amazing career in the NFL and was lucky to have won a number of championship titles.
What’s more special about his time in NFL is that unlike other players in his class who have often ended up in bankruptcy immediately they retire, Jason managed his income properly and was able to store up a reasonable fortune. Find out more here about his background, career, his net worth, and other facts you never knew about him.
Who Exactly is Jason Elam?
Jason was born on March 8, 1970, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He attended Brookwood High School where he began his football feats graduating as a first-team all-county honoree and second-team all-state. Jason Elam was also successful in track and swimming. But grew more interested in football than his other sports engagements.
In 1988, Jason enrolled in the University of Hawaii in Manoa and expectedly joined the school football team as a placekicker. In his four years at the school, he was applauded for scoring the third-most points in NCAA history. He also tied for the second-most field goals and on top of that was named all-time leading scorer in Western Athletic Conference. In addition, Elam was three-time All-WAC selection.
In 1992, after obtaining a degree in communications, he had the good fortune to be selected by Denver Broncos, an American football team in the third round of the 1993 NFL Draft. In Jason’s first year in the football franchise, the talented placekicker scored 119 points placing him seventh in NFL and fourth in AFC for points scored. His 26 field goals also tied for the fourth-highest total in the team’s history.
Jason Elam played 15 seasons for Broncos and held his own throughout his time in the team, scoring a 63-yard field goal, the longest field goal in NFL history alongside Tom Dempsey, David Akers, and Sebastian Janikowski, a record that was broken later in 2013. He also became a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
In 2008, a year after he left Broncos, Jason signed a four-year contract with Falcons. The contract was worth $9 million with $3.3 million guaranteed. However, there was no serious victory for Jason in his new team, recording only eight for fifteen field goals over 30 yards for Falcons. Since he couldn’t repeat the breakthroughs of his earlier career, he was released by the club the following year despite some years left in his contract. Having developed a special love for his previous team, Jason had to sign a one-day contract with Denver just so he could retire official from the field as a Bronco. In March of 2010, he bowed out of the football field.
In his 17 years in NFL, he took a position of strength and setting different records such as winning two Super Bowl rings and was three-time All-Pro selection. He has also authored three successful books titled Blackout, Blown Coverage and Monday Night Jihad.

Jason is living the life of his dreams considering the huge salaries he pocketed during his time in NFL. He earned about $2.25 million annually during the peak of his career. Outside his income as a placekicker, Jason Elam makes money from advertisements and endorsements. The famous football champ has an estimated net worth of $9 million.
Details of his Children & Wife – Tammy Elam
