For 21 years and in 16 seasons, Scottie Pippen held sway in the NBA history alongside the likes of Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal. He contributed a lot in popularizing both the NBA itself and Chicago Bulls where he started and spent most of his professional career days. Then, about a decade after Scottie retired from the game, another ‘Pippen’ name (Kavion) popped up in the NBA, prompting many basketball fans to wonder if Kavion Pippen and Scottie Pippen are related in any way. Oh yes, since they share a surname and similar sporting skills, this question is downright reasonable. And some people even say they bear a spitting resemblance to each other.

Kavion and Scottie share a similar stature, similar skills, and even similar facial shape and color. And they are both African Americans. As we have been able to discover also, both Pippens are natives of Hamburg city in Ashley County, Arkansas. Things became even more apparent when Kavion picked jersey number 33, same number that Scottie used to wear. The question now is, are these coincidences, providences, or are Kavion Pippen and Scottie Pippen actually related by blood outside these general ethnic and other considerations?

To make a long story short, we have come to find out that Kavion Pippen is actually related to the basketball legend Scottie. He is Scottie’s nephew while Scottie is his uncle. At the starting days of his college career in 2017, Kavion was approached by a college journalist Tom Weber who was trying to find out the truth about his family connections to the Hall of Famer Scottie. In response, Kavion said that as a child, he used to look forward to every year’s family reunion because he hoped to see his uncle Scottie. Revealing how the love for basketball began to bud in him that early, Kavion told the world that Scottie Pippen was one uncle he loved to stick around with during those annual family reunions and any other time he came around. Eventually, Kavion did not only catch the basketball light from his uncle Scottie by looking up to him, but also by getting valuable pieces of advice from him.

It is clear that sporting skills run in the Pippen family of Hamburg Arkansas because, apart from Kavion and Scottie, they also had Taylor Pippen, who played volleyball on the men’s college team at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
