We all look forward to Miss Universe pageant every year, but what many may not know is that all of this started in Long Beach, California back in 1952. 1. Gladys Zender (1957)
Gladys is a Peruvian model and beauty queen. She became the first Latin American woman to win the Miss Universe title after being crowned Miss Peru Universe 1957. One interesting thing about her is that she had not met the contest’s minimum age requirement when she won the competition at the age of 17 years and some months. The stunning beauty (who is in her eighties) has black hair, brown eyes, and a height of 1.70 m (5 ft 7 inches). She is married to Peruvian politician, Antonio Meier.
2. Lara Dutta (2000)
Lara Dutta represented India at the Miss Universe beauty pageant in 2000. The young India stunner didn’t go down the history as just a contestant; she also won the renowned title, topping seventy-nine delegates who took part in the competition. She found great success as an actress afterward, gathering several critical acclaims for her performances. The beauty has also received an award in film as the best female debut in Filmfare. She got married to Mahesh Bhupathi in 2011 and they are blessed with a child. Dutta is 5 feet 8 inches tall.
3. Angela Visser (1989)
Angela Visser is the first Dutch to win the Miss Universe and she won the title in 1989. Following that, she was named “The Best Miss Universe Ever” at an event that took place in 1999. The Dutch beauty queen has since become an actress and a model. She strikes a blonde hair, green eyes, and 1.79 m (5 ft 10 in) in height. The Dutch beauty is married to Phil Missig with whom she has a child.
4. Mona Grudt (1990)
Mona Grudt is a Norwegian who became the judges’ favorite in Miss Universe 1990, becoming the first and the only Norwegian to capture the Miss Universe title. She was listed in the competition as a “beauty queen from hell” (either because she was born in Hell, Norway or because hell’ means ‘luck’ in Norwegian). Since being crowned the Miss Universe, she has gone on to become a TV host, dancer, and editor.
Grudt has been through two failed marriages; first to Lasse Berre – from 1995 to 1999 – and then to Brody Bittrick – from 2005 to 2012. She has a height of 5 feet 10 inches.
5. Amelia Vega (2003)
Amelia Vega became the first Dominican to win the Miss Universe title – a crown she won in 2003. She overtook Wendy Fitzwilliam (the 1998 winner) as the tallest woman to ever win the pageant with a height of 6’1. The beauty queen has also led a successful career as an actress. Venezuelan Gabriela Isler clinched the Miss Universe title in 2013, at the age of 24. She was born in Valencia, Venezuela in 1988 and is of Swiss and German descent. She holds a degree in management and marketing. Gabriela started her career as a model when she was 14 in Maracay where she grew up. The beauty has a light brown colored hair, brown eyes, and stands at a height of 1.79 m (5 ft 10 in).
7. Natalie Glebova (2005)
Natalie Glebova is a Russian-Canadian beauty queen who won Miss Universe 2005 in Thailand after winning Miss Universe Canada the same year. Wendy Fitzwilliam won Miss Universe in 1998 and made history as the second person from Trinidad and Tobago. The 2004 Aussie winner remains one of the hottest winners in history. That achievement has made her become an Australian supermodel, brand ambassador, and a TV presenter. She is the hostess of Australia’s Next Top Model and also the CEO of several flourishing products and clothing lines. 5 feet 11 inches tall, Hawkins has a child with her husband, Jake Wall.

12. Paulina Vega (2014)
Paulina Vega Dieppa is a Colombian beauty queen and TV host who won the Miss Universe in 2014, becoming the second Colombian to do so. She was born in 1993 in Barranquilla, Colombia and attended Pontifical Xavierian University. Vega has hosted many events as a TV host including Viña del Mar International Song Festival Opening in 2019 for Fox Channel. 14. Sushmita Sen (1994)
Sushmita has become more famous as an actress than a model, although it was thanks to the latter that she first gained fame. The Indian ageless beauty was born in November 1975.
