Famous in the ’70s and ’80s for her appearances in several highly acclaimed movies and TV series, Erin Moran was an American actress who won over lots of fans for herself and built an image of an actress of high repute. A happy, cheerful woman, Erin Moran was always seen sporting an infectious smile on her face. In fact, some fans have dubbed her the ‘happy thespian’ because of this.

A very hard working woman, Erin Moran appeared in many independent movies and TV series over the years. However, she was best known for her performance in Happy Days, a sitcom in which she played the role of Joanie Cunningham. The American actress was also known for her appearances in Joanie Loves Chachi, a spin-off of Happy Days.

Erin Moran was born on the 18th of October, 1960. The actress was born in Burbank, a city in California, USA. However, she was raised in North Hollywood, a neighborhood close to Burbank, after her family moved there following her birth.

Erin Moran’s father has been identified as Edward Moran and her mother’s name has been revealed to be Sharon Moran. Her father used to work as a finance manager to sustain the family. Her mother is on record to have supported her acting career with everything she had. In fact, it was her mother who signed her with an agent when she was just five years old.

Growing up was fun for Erin Moran because she had siblings who were always making life lively for her. The youngest child of her parents, Erin has five older siblings. They were very fond of each other as kids and remained close as they grew older. Just like her, two of her brothers, identified as John Moran and Tony Moran, also went into acting.

For her education, Erin Moran attended the Walter Reed Junior High School for one year before attending the North Hollywood High School for another year.

Acting Career

Erin Moran was born to act; right from when she was just a toddler, she showed signs that she was made for the TV and her mother made sure she developed her talents appropriately. When she was just 5 years old, Erin had her very first acting role when she appeared in a television commercial for First Federal Bank. The next year at the age of six, she was in Daktari, a TV series in which she acted as Jenny Jones.

In 1968, Erin Moran made her debut in a feature film when she was cast as Laurie in How Sweet It Is!. The same year, she appeared in Stanley vs. The System, a TV Movie. In 1969, she appeared as Mary Tugwell/Mary Elizabeth in Death Valley Days, a TV series. Shortly afterward, she also starred in 80 Steps to Jonah and The Happy Ending. By this time, she was gaining some attention as a young girl with great potential.

With her fame and relevance growing, Erin Moran kept winning more roles and in 1972, she started making regular appearances on The Don Rickles Show. At this time, she was also making appearances on another TV series called The F.B.I. in which she appeared as Cindy Marot.

In 1974, when Erin Moran was just 13 years old, she got her big break on TV after she was cast as Joanie Cunningham in Happy Days, a popular sitcom. She appeared in the series for quite a while, gaining lots of attention and winning huge recognition for her performance. In 1982, she continued playing the role of Joanie Cunningham in Joanie Loves Chachi, the short-lived spin-off series of Happy Days. Her performance in the series earned her the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress in a New Television Series cementing her place as one of the very exciting actresses to watch.

Over the years, Erin Moran kept landing more roles on TV series and feature films. In 1986, she starred as Maggie Roberts in Murder, She Wrote and as Cynthia Bennett in Diagnosis Murder, a TV Series in 1998. In 2003, she starred as herself in Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star before scoring the role of Mrs. Watkins in Broken Promise in 2008. In 2009, Erin was cast as Kelly DeMartin in the TV series The Bold and the Beautiful. She then made appearances as Mrs. Klien in Not Another B Movie in 2010.

Erin Moran made quite a lot of money during her acting career. Having started her acting career from the very early age of 5, the actress went on to make waves in Hollywood with her apt role interpretation in the many feature films and TV series she appeared in, winning accolades and attracting serious attention to herself.

However, as she grew older and her relevance began to wane through the dawn of a new millennium, her wealth reportedly began to reduce. Shortly before she passed away, some reports claimed that she was very broke. The actress was reportedly worth just $50,000 at the time of her death in 2017.

Erin Moran was a married woman. At the time of her death, she was married to a man identified as Steven Fleischmann. Some reports say he used to work with Walmart before marrying Erin. They got married in 1993 and remained together till she sadly passed away.

Before meeting and marrying Steven Fleischmann, Erin Moran used to be married to Rocky Ferguson. The couple got married in 1987 and remained together till 1993 when they divorced over irreconcilable differences. It was the same year in 1993 that she married Steven Fleischmann.

There are no reports that Erin Moran had any child during her lifetime.

Cause Of Death

Erin Moran died on April 22, 2017. On that fateful day, authorities were called to her home to attend to an “unresponsive female”. That female was identified to be Erin and shortly after, she was pronounced dead at the age of 56.

She was later revealed to have died of complications from cancer. When her autopsy report emerged from the Harrison County coroner, the cause of her death was revealed to be complications of stage-four squamous cell carcinoma of the throat.
