The pair was later adopted by William Procter and his wife, Barbara Procter. Will is a medical doctor while his wife Barbara served as a volunteer worker.

Growing up in the Raleigh neighborhood of North Carolina, Emily completed her basic education at Ravenscroft School. Upon graduation, she enrolled at East Carolina University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in dance and journalism. While she was in the University, Emily was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and she also worked as a weather reporter for WNCT-TV situated in the Greenville City of North Carolina.

Details of Her Acting Career & Rise to Stardom

Soon after she graduated from East Carolina University, Emily Procter relocated to Los Angeles, where she enrolled in acting classes for two years. While she was there, the outstanding actress was able to kick off her acting career. At first, Emily played small roles in the 1995 television series, including Friends, Platypus Man, and Renegade. She equally featured in two films titled Leaving Las Vegas and Fast Company, in the same year.

The following year, along with Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr., the fast-rising actress portrayed the role of Jerry’s former girlfriend in the comedy-drama, Jerry Maguire. After that, she played the character of Lang Lang in the popular superhero TV film Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, in the same year. In 1997, Emily guest-starred in a good number of TV series, including Just Shoot Me, Early Edition, and The Dukes of Hazzard Reunion, as well as movies such as Breast Men, Family Plan, and The Girl Gets Moe.

Emily rose to prominence in the year 2000 when she joined the cast of NBC’s political drama series, The West Wing. Playing the recurring role of Ainsley Hayes in the series helped catapult Emily into the limelight. While the series was ongoing, Emily also became one of the stars of the CBS series CSI (Crime Scene Investigation). She played the recurring role of Detective Calleigh from 2002 to 2012. In 2013, she starred in a few episodes of White Collar.
