As suggested by the name, Debbie Matenopoulos is of Greek ancestry. She was, however, born in Richmond, Virginia to Nicolaos and Efrosini Matenopoulos on the 13th of December, 1974. Her father is a furniture maker while her mother is a hairstylist.
Matenopoulos was born as the third child in the family, behind a sister and a brother named Ike. She grew up in Richmond and attended John Randolph Tucker High School before she spent a year at Virginia Commonwealth University before heading to New York University where she studied Journalism.

The move to New York was an important step in her career as a journalist and this quickly reflected when she got an internship role at the popular television network, MTV. Here, she worked hard enough to rise through the ladder and become the story coordinator of UnFiltered, one of the network’s popular programs.
Following graduation, Debbie Matenopoulos continued to work for MTV in another role as a production assistant. She did not, however, spend a lot of time in the position before she got a chance to begin her career as a television host. At the invitation of Barbara Walters, she auditioned for a role as a co-host on The View which was a new program at the time. She got the role and became its youngest co-host.
Her time on The View was, however, short. She spent just two years on the show during which she made appearances on Saturday Night Live. After The View, Matenopoulos got another job with TV Guide Channel where she continued to work as a host. Over time, she has held the role of a host in several TV shows over the course of her career.
