John Whitfield is a black American, born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 2, 1992. With details about his parents not found, DC Young Fly grew up with his two brothers at the west side of Atlanta known as Adamsville, where he attended Benjamin E. Mays High School and was known as his class clown. After graduating, he moved to Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus for his college education.

Life on the street was quite an issue for Whitfield and his brother as they often got themselves into fights that almost cost them their lives. Young Fly eventually lost his older brother in 2011 and was stabbed four times by some gang members around their neighborhood. After the horrific incident, he decided to turn a new leaf, focusing more on how to improve his talents. His DC tattoo in his forehead is, according to some sources, in memory of his brother Richie Whitfield. Other sources also claim the “DC,” which stands for “Da Crew” represents his brotherhood.

After a series of failed efforts to secure a meaningful job, Whitfield got his first job at the age of 18, and in 2013, he started Vining. He began to gain popularity and was known for making and posting videos with his catchphrases “Bring dat ass hea boi” and “Fawwwkumean.” One of the videos that brought DC Young Fly to the limelight is the “roasting celeb” videos on Instagram. The video has him roasting celebrities like Drake, Kevin Hart, and Lebron James. He gained wider recognition when these celebrities try to roast him back.

DC Young Fly’s Debut As A Music Star

Following his fast-growing popularity on social media, he created his YouTube channel, DC Young Fly in 2014 and began posting videos of his rap songs, while he continued to pursue his musical career alongside his career as a comedian and an actor. It was the popularity of his videos, alongside the rapping skills he exhibits, that earned him influential followers like Lebron James, just to name a few.

“Westside Connection,” which was released on September 16, 2014, happens to be Young Fly’s first music track, and his debut mixtape “Curb Music” came four years after, in 2018. The album has ten tracks, including “2 Shots,” “On My Own,” “Whole Life,” “No Weed,” “Got My Back,” and “Take Ya Ass Home.”

January 1, 2019, had Young Fly release his second mixtape, and it was well-received on various media outlets. The mixtape, which is titled “Trap Soul,” featured twelve tracks, including “Right Quick (Interlude),” “Stay Down,”  “Where Were U,” “Right Now,” and “Gotta Go.”

He Also Made Strides As An Actor

While making various music videos, which he continued to feed his social media audiences, DC young Fly also made his way into the American movie industry. His first film role was as Eric in the 2016 comedy film ‘Almost Christmas.’ His first TV role, on the other hand, was a recurring cast in season 7 of Nick Cameron’s MTV and MTV2 show named Wild ‘N Out. In 2016, he received a role in the comedy-drama film, Almost Christmas. He also had a leading role in an independent film titled #digitallivesmatter and also starred in BET projects such as The Quad and The New Edition Story. 

2018 was a hectic year for the talented star as he appeared in two films: She Ball and I Got the Hook-Up 2. The latter was released on July 12, 2019, the same year he was said to be starring alongside rapper Lil Yachty in the 2019 sequel, How High 2, which premiered on MTV on April 20, 2019. He even co-hosted the 2019 BET Social Awards with stand-up comedian Jess Hilarious. Towards the end of 2019, he started performing as an opening act for R&B singer Eric Bellinger’s “Cuffing Season Tour.” In 2020, he joined the judges for the internet game show Floored on the streaming service “Quibi.”

He makes most of his earnings from his YouTube channel, which has about 8 million subscribers and more than 22 million views. He probably earns more from Instagram, where he is the most followed Wild ‘N Out cast member, with about 9.8m followers.

DC Young Fly also generates income from his performances as an actor, comedian, and singer. According to different sources, his net worth has been estimated to around $2 million. Recently, he posted a video of himself gifting his mother a Mercedes Benz and a house believed to be worth millions of dollars. He described it as a dream come true, providing for his family.

His girlfriend Jacky Oh is a model and actress also known for appearing in the MTV show, Wild ‘N Out. She was born on 3, 1990, in Oakland, California, and she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. Although Jacky and DC Young Fly are yet to officially solemnize their union, they have lived together as a couple for years. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Nova in 2016. They are also expecting their second child that may arrive sometime in 2020.
