Who is Dave Hester?

Dave Hester was born on the 3rd day of July 1964 at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base which is located near Oceanside, a city in California. Even though he is apparently an American man, Dave also has German, Irish and Mexican roots. This is because while his parents’ names have not been provided, reports show that his father is both a German and Irish man. His mother, on the other hand, is reported to have been born in Mexico. Dave has a younger brother but they are not close at all. In fact, reports have it that they have been at loggerheads for a while.

Dave Hester’s father was reportedly a military personnel who raised his children with an iron fist. Also, he was not just involved with the military, he was also a trained collector of storage items and was always making appearances at auctions to purchase all the collectibles he could lay hands on. And so, growing up, Dave Hester was exposed to the auctions business from a very early age and was very interested in garage sales.

When he was just 5 years old, Dave started to go with his father to auctions where he started to pick up one or two tricks. He would go out with his dad to Swap meets and remain there till his father is done before leaving. He soon became overly fascinated with the business and decided from early on that he was going to go into the auctions business. However, unlike his father who was more interested in buying and hoarding items, Dave wanted to become more directly involved in the business by owning his own auction store.

His Passion for auction goods started early

By the time he turned 14 years old, Dave had already started to buy items by himself from auctions that he attended. He then sold off those items to shops and shop-owners in Orange County, California. Right from the ’90s, Dave was well known as a young man very interested in auctions. He started out as a bid-catcher and became popular at auctions because of the catchphrase ‘Yuuup!, which he uses to gain attention. He finally got his license as a full-time auctioneer in 1992.

As a professional, Dave started out as a furniture buyer at auctions but this changed when he was arrested for drunk driving and was consequently ordered to do community service at a Goodwill store. While doing the community service, he realized that there was a lot of potential in the storage business so he decided to diversify and delve into the storage business.

Soon, he was able to open up two stores in the city of California. The first store he opened was called the Rags to Riches thrift store while the other one was called Newport Consignment Gallery. The stores were doing very well and he had to employ as many as ten persons to work for him by taking care of the collectibles he buys from storage auctions and then selling them off later. In fact, one of the items he managed to acquire at the storage auctions was the “Golden Pool” a painting by Jack Wilkinson which was a notable piece of art. He bought the art piece for just $750 and succeeded in selling it off at an amazing $155,000, raking in a huge profit.
