Born on November 26, 1998, the American singer, songwriter, and social media star Corbyn Matthew Besson hails from Texas. His father, Ray Besson, worked in the Air Force. As a result, the family moved around a lot. In the early years of Corbyn’s life, he lived in Alabama, South Dakota, and Florida before the family settled in Fairfax, Virginia.

The young singer has a younger sister named Ashley and a younger brother, whose name is Jordan Besson. He and his sister, Ashley, have appeared on his YouTube page. Additionally, Corbyn is not the only musician in the Besson family. His cousins are the Dutch girl group, O’G3NE. It is a group of sisters, who among other successes, won the fifth season of The Voice of Holland.

There is very little public information about his academic background. But his musical one began when he was a toddler. He sang songs by Michael Jackson and Backstreet Boys. At the age of 12, he got his first guitar. It was an electric guitar gifted to him by a family member. He quickly learned how to play, and within a few months, began posting covers of popular songs on his Xbox voice chats. Corbyn dabbled in other interests like sports, graphic design and video games, but he kept returning to music as his true passion.

He went from posting songs on Xbox to video covers on Instagram. A piece of advice from a friend led him to YouNow, where he quickly developed a following of more than 100,000 fans for his covers. Supported by his parents, Corbyn had his first stage performance at Williamsburg, Virginia. He performed for twenty people and launched his career as a solo musician.

Later, he followed the Williamsburg performance with the launch of his brand; he had a website and also sold merchandise. In December 2014, he took things further and released his first single, The Only One. He released another, Marathons, in 2015.

The majority of Corbyn Besson’s successes as a musician are due to his membership in the group ‘Why Don’t We’. After his two singles performed modestly well on the iTunes chart, he followed their success by going on the Impact Tour.

Alongside Corbyn on tour were his future bandmates, Jack Avery and Zach Herron. After about a year of going on tour and meeting other young rising stars, they formed the boy band, Why Don’t We.

On September 27, 2016, with four members, namely Daniel Seavey, Jonah Marais, Jack Avery, and Zach Herron, Why Don’t We came into existence. Corbyn Besson joined the group in 2017 as the group’s fifth member and together, they embarked on ‘Something Different Tour’ in 2017. In the month he joined, the group signed with Atlantic Records.

Since its formation, Why Don’t We, and by extension, Corbyn Besson, have released one album – 8 Letters. They released the album in August 2018, and it peaked at #8 on the US Billboard 200. The album has sold more than 50,000 copies. Other works include six EPs and 21 singles. Combined with his two solo singles, Corbyn has 23 singles to his name.

Corbyn Besson, along with other members of Why Don’t We, also have a few awards and nominations to their name. They have nominations from Teen Choice Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards, and a couple more. They bagged the International New Artist Award at the 2018 BreakTudo Awards and the Choice Music Group Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards as well.

On his own, Corbyn Besson has more than 2.2 million followers on Instagram, over 855,000 followers on Twitter, and 194,000-plus subscribers on YouTube. His videos on YouTube also have more than 3.2 million views.

For Corbyn Besson, his number one music influence is his mother. He credits her for helping him fall in love with music and fueling a passion that has defined his young life. Professionally, Corbyn’s influences include Ed Sheeran, Jake Miller, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, and Taylor Swift.
