Chris Sarandon’s Biography, Age

Christopher Sarandon Jr. is a native of West Virginia, he was born on July 24, 1942, to Christopher and Cliffie Sarandon – his Turkish parents of Greek ancestry. Chris has a younger brother named John Peter and his parents are both restaurateurs. He holds an American nationality and belongs to Greek ethnicity.

Academically, Chris first attended Woodrow Wilson High School, after which he enrolled at West Virginia University where he took part in the school musical The Music Man. He then bagged a Bachelors degree in Speech before proceeding to The Catholic University of America (CUA) where he obtained his Master’s degree in Theatre after which he pursued his acting career.

Sarandon’s career in the entertainment world could be said to have started in the early 1960s but he received his first acting role in 1965 when he appeared in a Broadway play titled The Rose Tattoo. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1968 and in no time, he made his TV debut as Dr. Tom Halverson in a television series This Guiding Light. It was followed by the primetime movie The Satan Murders and Thursday’s Game before he made his first major break in a crime drama film Dog Day Afternoon which garnered as much as $50 million at the box office. In addition to the positive reviews received by the film, Chris also received his first Academy Award nomination for the Best Supporting Actor for his role as Leon Shermer – the transgendered wife of Al Pacino. He also earned a Golden Globe Award in the Best Acting Debut in a Motion Picture category.

In 1980, Sarandon received the role of Christ in the TV movie The Day Christ Dies. The same year, he appeared as Sydney Carton/Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two Cities. His role in the television movie was also highly acclaimed, giving him more roles in more films and series, including The Osterman Weekend, Fright Night, No Greater Love, Chicago Hope, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

A year after severing their nuptial ties in the late ’70s, the actor married his second wife Lisa Ann Cooper and of course, the marriage ended in 1989, after about nine years together as husband and wife. Chris took a brief break from relationships and possibly dedicated it to his career until in 1994 when he met Joanna Gleason while performing in a broadway musical Nick & Nora.

Chris has three children, including two daughters – Stephanie, Alexis, and a son named Michael. His three children were birthed by his ex-wife Lisa Ann Cooper. He had no offspring with his ex-wife Sussan and is yet to welcome any child with his wife Joanna Gleason.
