Chance was interested in music since his young age and during his freshman year, he formed a hip-hop duo Instrumentality with his friend Justin while at Jones College Prep High School. Their early performances were at the YOUmedia Lyricist Loft at Harold Washington Library situated in Chicago.
He was inspired by Kanye West’s debut album “The College Dropout” that got him to hip-hop and rap music. He first recorded a mixtape #10Day while at suspension during his senior year for marijuana-related activities.
Chance the Rapper worked further and released a song ‘Windows’ in December 2011, that made him a highlight on Complex magazine’s ’10 New Chicago Rappers to Watch Out for’. He started recording, writing and making connections to make a full-time career as a rapper. His first mixtape was received locally and got him connected to producers like Chuck Inglish, Blended Babies and Kenny James$ while he was also featured in Forbes Magazine for the same.
Chance appeared on Childish Gambino’s mixtape ‘Royalty’ and went on a concert tour of North America and did the opening act for the show. His second mixtape ‘Acid Rap’ in 2013 is certified diamond after being downloaded over a million times. He also collaborated with artists like Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, Vic Mensa, Twista, among others and got praised by many critics while also gaining a lot of fans. The album was nominated for the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards that got him an international recognition.
He was featured in June 2013, on MySpace commercial alongside Mac Miller, Pharrell Williams and Schoolboy Q. Performing at the Lollapalooza, a Chicago music festival, this budding artist soon rose to fame and appeared on several music videos while also creating mixtapes of his own.
Listed #7 on the ‘Forbes 30 under 30’ 2015 music list in 2015, Bennett was also invited to Harvard University’s Hiphop Archive and Research Institute to deliver a lecture. ‘Surf’, another of his work received rave reviews while ‘Metacritic’ scored it to 88/10.
Chance the Rapper Girlfriend and Daughter
Highly praised for the syncopated and complex flow patterns of his musical style, this rapper dated Kirsten Corley with whom he has a child named Kensli. In July 2015, Chance announced that he was expecting his first child with his girlfriend Kirsten, whom he began to date in 2013 and in September 2015, Kirsten gave birth to their daughter, Kensli. Their daughter was kept out of social media until December 31, 2016, when her father posted a picture of her on Instagram.
In May 2016, after they had stopped living together, Kirsten wanted the courts to declare Chance as the father of their daughter and he would have to pay child support. In February 2017, Chance’s child support case reopened in an attempt to work out child support terms and a parenting schedule as Chance and his ex-girlfriend Kirsten moved to separate residences and the dispute was later settled in court on March 21, 2017.
Chance spends much of his free time with his daughter and takes her on activities with him.
