Blake Shelton is one celebrity who regularly makes the headlines; if not for his professional strides then for his personal life. On the career front, there are fewer big names in the country music genre than The Dreamer singer.
He has been a notable country music star since his 2001 debut and has maintained his relevance ever since with the release of platinum albums, chart-topping songs, and of course, his continued appearance on the singing competition, The Voice. All these have resulted in stupendous wealth which the Oklahoma native spends as he wishes.
Outside of music, Blake has also lived a fascinating love life which has thus far seen him embark on two failed matrimonies amidst infidelity and cheating scandals. The country crooner however refuses to become cynical and has yet again given his heart out in what seems to be a promising relationship.
One of Country’s Richest Stars
Blake Shelton has a net worth of $80 million and he owes this to his music career. This is not just in terms of the actual revenue he generates from album sales and the likes but the benefits his fame as a musician has brought him thus far, including TV and movie gigs as well as business ventures
Platinum Albums and Sold-out Tours
Shelton began singing at the age of 12 and started playing the guitar that same year. Upon completing high school, he relocated to the home of country music in America, Nashville, in pursuit of a singing career. Before Blake released his first song in 2001, he worked in a music publishing company in Nashville until he was eventually signed onto Giant Records and released his first single, Austin, which reached number one on the Billboard Country Music chart and effectively launched his career.
Since that amazing debut, Blake Shelton has gone on to release several more singles throughout his career. He has also dropped about 11 albums including The Dreamer, Blake Shelton’s Barn & Grill, Pure BS, Startin’ Fires, Red River Blue, Cheers, It’s Christmas, Based on a True Story…, Bringing Back the Sunshine, If I’m Honest and Texoma Shore.
The Oklahoma native has so far sold about 10 million albums and an even larger 30 million sold singles throughout his career, thus generating millions of dollars for him. He has also embarked on several sold-out tours across America and the world at large (His 2013 Ten Times Crazier Tour grossed $18 million) and all this contributes to his yearly earnings which a 2017 Forbes estimate pegged at $31.5 million.
Movie Appearances, the Voice Coach, and Restaurant Chain
Another avenue that contributes to Shelton’s yearly income and ultimately his net worth is his TV work. The country singer is equally a talented actor and has appeared in some films and TV shows, such as The Ridiculous 6, Pitch Perfect 2, and American Dreams, with his salaries running into the six and seven-figure region. Additionally, Shelton is also a coach on The Voice.
He has been on the popular singing competition from 2011 to date (18 seasons and counting) and makes as much as $4 million per season totaling about $72 million thus far.
Finally, Blake is also a smart investor and is the owner of a restaurant chain known as Ole Red. Even though the chain has yet to become some sort of national franchise, it is thriving with about three outlets and is predicted to record more growth in the future.
How does the Singer Spend his Millions?
Shelton isn’t given to an ostentatious lifestyle and this is reflected in the way he spends his money. While other celebrities of his caliber boast of multiple mansions and an array of flashy cars, the singer only has what can be termed a reasonable amount of both. For cars, Shelton is a big fan of trucks and has revealed that his first car is a GMC step-side pickup truck.
The singer now has at least one other truck, a Nissan truck, as well as a Cadillac Escalade. As for houses, Shelton and his girlfriend purchased a $13.2 million home in May 2020. The 13,000 square foot house features a four-car garage, a state of the art home theatre, massive backyard pool with spa, outdoor kitchen, and wet bar.
Another area that Shelton easily spends money on is charity. The Voice star is a generous giver who regularly donates to causes close to his heart. He donated $600,000 to a children’s cancer hospital in 2013. He also made a $150,000 donation to help feed the hungry in his native Oklahoma during the coronavirus lockdown in April 2020. The singer also supported the music program at the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School with a cheque of $54,214 in March 2019.
Getting Hitched to his High School Sweetheart
Country music is notorious for the romance sagas often involving its stars and Blake Shelton is no different. The singer first tied the knot with his high school sweetheart Kaynette Williams nee Gern back in 2003. Kaynette is a native of Oklahoma and was born in 1973. She is equally a gifted vocalist and holds a degree in finance and human science. Shelton and Kaynette first crossed paths while they were both in high school.
They subsequently commenced a relationship and remained together for several years during which they both tried to make headway in the music industry. Shelton later achieved success and they tied the knot in a small ceremony held in Tennessee in November 2003. Following their nuptials, Shelton gushed about his new wife while she equally helped him out with his burgeoning career, serving as his road manager.
The couple seemed to be the real deal but their marriage came crashing after three years with both parties filing for divorce in 2003. Kaynette attributed the split to inappropriate marital conduct by her husband and the divorce was later finalized. The lady has since moved on with her life and is now living in Kansas. She remarried a rodeo champion, Cody Joe Scheck, and now makes her living as an elementary school teacher.
Reigning with Miranda Lambert as the First Couple of Country Music
If you are still wondering what Shelton’s first wife meant when she referred to inappropriate marital conduct in her divorce filing, then wonder no more as she was simply referring to his relationship with fellow country music star and eventual second wife, Miranda Lambert.
Shelton and Lambert first met when they were paired up to perform a duet at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets Special in September 2005. Sparks flew between them and five months later, Shelton filed for divorce from his first wife.
He and Lambert subsequently commenced a relationship, and dated for about four years during which they reigned as the “it couple of country”. They later got engaged in May 2010 and tied the knot a year later in a star-studded ceremony held on a Texas ranch. What followed was four years of marital life during which some rumors swirled around the couple. All those rumors eventually came to a head when they jointly announced their separation in July 2015.
They maintained that it was a heartbreaking decision and asked for respect for their privacy. Shelton and Miranda have never revealed what led to their divorce but the primary consensus has been infidelity and it seems that it is Miranda that was the culprit. Shelton has referenced a cheating spouse in his 2016 song, She’s Got a Way with Words. He also tweeted about karma in April 2018 amidst rumors that Miranda had commenced a relationship with her new beau, Evan Felker, while he, Evan, was still married.
Hoping for Happily Ever After with Gwen Stefani
Blake Shelton has put the debacle of his second divorce behind him and one person who helped him to do this is none other than his present girlfriend, and Grammy-winning pop singer, Gwen Stefani.
Shelton first got close to Gwen when she was appointed to join The Voice as a coach in April 2014. They quickly became good friends and helped each other get through their respective divorces; Shelton from Miranda in July 2015 and Stefani from her husband of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale, in August 2015. The two superstar singers inevitably grew closer with time and commenced a relationship in November 2015.
The pair have remained together ever since then and their love has grown stronger. They have dropped some songs together including 2016’s Go Ahead and Break My Heart. They have also made regular appearances on the red carpet as well as joint public performances including one at the 2020 Grammys. Stefani has also introduced Blake to her three kids from her first marriage, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, and many have started clamoring for the pair to tie the knot. They are however taking things in stride and are enjoying their bubbling romance.
