Now that her divorce from Brad Pitt has been finalized, Angelina Jolie has begun rebuilding her personal real estate portfolio. For her first post-divorce buy, Jolie chose the iconic Hollywood mansion formerly belonging to the legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille.
According to TMZ, Jolie paid close to the listing price of $25 million for the historic property. At that price, it is the highest anyone has ever paid for a house in Los Feliz. Hitherto, heiress Lydia Hearst held the record after paying $12 million in October 2015 for the historic Rossetti Residence.
DeMille who is regarded as one of the founding fathers of motion picture bought the property in 1916, (three years after it was built) for $28,000 and lived in it until his death in 1959.
The house was listed in late March 2017 by its now former owners; novelist Richard Grossman and art consultant Lisa Lyons. According to Town & Country magazine, the property recently underwent a $500,000 multi-year refurbishment. However, it won’t surprise us to see Jolie put it through a revamp of her own, you know, just to get it to her taste.
Jolie’s new dig is located in the celebrity-studded gated community of Laughlin Park. Other stars living in the area include; Casey Affleck, Natalie Portman, David Fincher and Kristen Stewart.
The sprawling mansion sits on a 2.1-acre plot located at the highest point in the estate. As a result, it easily offers panoramic views of Los Angeles including the famous Griffith Observatory and the Pacific Ocean. The property also comes with a separate studio house and pool house.
Measuring 11,000 square feet, the house includes 6 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Other features of the 1913 Beaux style mansion include a gym, library, an indoor and outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardens.
The new buy would come as a huge relief for the Maleficent actress who moved back and forth 2 rented Malibu houses with her 6 children after her shocking split from Brad Pitt. One of the properties rented for $35,000 per month.
