Her academic journey began at Salesian High School where she graduated in 1995 and she attended the American University School of Communication, graduating in 1999, before starting her professional journalism career at San Francisco Chronicle.

Career

Cecilia Vega began her career in journalism writing for the San Francisco Chronicle before she ventured into broadcast journalism. Her journey in broadcast journalism began like most journalists in America, in a local affiliate station. She began working for an ABC network affiliate station, KGO-TV, which is based in San Francisco in 2009.

Cecilia’s time at the station lasted for three years, a period which she used in learning the ropes of the profession, and building her reputation as a talented journalist. During her time at the station, she covered a different range of stories in the San Francisco area, ranging from politics to business to sports, and the quality of her work shined through.

While many journalists would look back on their time at an affiliate station as a foundational period in their career, Cecilia’s excellence at KGO-TV was also a period in which she became a star when she was won an Emmy award for her coverage of a news story in 2010. Having peaked at the local level, it was time for Cecilia Vega to move on to the national level and she did so via her parent company, joining ABC News in 2011 as a Los Angeles based correspondent.

Out of Los Angeles, Cecilia Vega covered a range of national and international news stories, which sometimes took her on trips across the world, to Rome, Japan, and London where she covered global news stories like the selection of a new Pope, the Fukushima disaster and the Olympics.

Her career as a correspondent for ABC News has involved a number of interesting and fascinating incidents such as the election and inauguration of President Obama in 2012, the Ebola threats in the US, and the infamous hacking of Sony. Over the course of her career, the biggest and most interesting incident has been the personal insult that was directed to her by President Donald Trump in 2018.

On the 1st of October, 2018, during a press conference, she was a victim of the President’s abrasive nature when he said ‘I know You’re Not Thinking. You Never Do’, when she asked a question.
