Gone are the days when the world of sports journalism or sports as a whole was an exclusively male affair. Today, the profession is a mixed pot of personalities from both genders who have taken to different aspects of the profession to live their dreams. One of the many women in sports journalism today is Abby Chin.

Although Abby Chin is still growing her career, she has made a name for herself in her very short time working as a sideline reporter for NBC Sports Boston and has covered major events like the 2018 Olympic Winter Games for NBC Sports. Apart from reporting, Abby has also worked as an anchor on a couple of shows.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Abby Chin was born sometime in 1982 as Abigail Chin to unknown parents. Much of the details about her familial background is unknown, with the exception of the fact she is one of three daughters born to her parents.

Abby Chin took interest in sports at a very young age and she maintained the interest all the way to high school at Desert Vista High School where she competed in various sports, including skiing, soccer, and snowboarding. The range of sports Abby competed in also include gymnastics and track & field.

Following the end of high school, a lot of people often abandon their interest in sports and pursue a different career path but Abby Chin continued with her passion for sports and having decided not to compete professionally, earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism, with the intention of becoming a sports journalist.

She studied at University of Colorado Boulder and instead of waiting before she graduated to gain experience in the field of journalism, she began to work as a sideline reporter for UPN 20 Denver.

Abby Chin, an industrious woman, also worked in internship roles at other establishments such as 760 Zone Radio, before she began her career as a professional journalist.

Following graduation, Abby Chin has worked in various capacities for a number of media outlets. She has worked as a production assistant for the ESPN show, Monday Night Football, she has also worked as a reporter for CBS42 in Birmingham, Alabama and she has worked as a primary reporter covering the NBA team, Portland Trail Blazers and PAC-12 Football for NBC Sports Portland.

Abby Chin now works as a sideline reporter covering the Boston Celtics for Comcast SportsNet New England which was later acquired by NBC and became NBC Sports Boston.

Abby Chin’s Personal Life

A number of people find it difficult to merge the success of their professional life with a successful marital life and while Abby Chin works in one of the most demanding professions in the world, particularly in terms of schedule, she has been able to forge a happy marital life.

Abby is married to Mike Schmidt, a former long-time boyfriend; however, the date of their wedding is not known. The couple reportedly met in 2014 in an ESPN office at Connecticut. Her husband, Mike Schmidt works as a software engineer.

Since they got married, the couple has given birth and have been raising two children – Mabel Schmidt who was born on the 24th of December, 2015 and the second, Silas John Schmidt who was born on the 11th of January, 2019.

Having lived in places like Alabama, Oregon, and Seattle, the family currently reside in Boston.

At the time of birth, her daughter, Mabel weighed 4 pounds and 10 ounces while her son, Silas weighed 6 pounds and 13 ounces. Both children also arrived a week before their respective due dates.

 Abby Chin’s daughter, Mabel, after just 13 days of being alive, had to undergo open-heart surgery at the Boston Children’s Hospital in order to fix a blockage in her heart.

Abby has a slim physique, with a height of 5 feet 5 inches and a body weight of 55kg. She also has body features that include black colored eyes and black hair.
